What to Expect
If you're thinking about joining us for our Sunday morning worship, you might have a few questions. Here's some general information on what you can expect.
Don't see your question here? Feel free to email us at office@hillside-haven.org.
What happens?
Our service begins at 10AM, but we often arrive early to fellowship before things get underway. We'll start with a call to worship and announcements from one of our elders, then we'll sing a few songs, be led in prayer, hear Scripture read, and listen to the preaching of God's Word. After the message we'll sing a final song and finish with a minute of silent reflection. At that point our service ends, but you'll usually find us mingling for a while after.
What's the sermon about?
At Hillside, the vast majority of our preaching is working through individual books in the Bible, one passage at a time. We rotate through a few speakers, including our four elders and the occasional guest speaker, but our goal each time is to correctly study and apply God's Word, without adding or taking away from its true meaning. You can listen to our most recent messages here, on Spotify, and on Apple Podcast.
What do we sing?
We sing a variety of songs in a variety of styles. Our primary concern with the songs we sing is that the words be true and founded on Scripture. We love gathering together each week to sing these truths to one another. For that reason, we strive to make the main instrument the voice of the congregation. It is not uncommon for the music team to drop out and allow the congregation to continue in one voice as we praise our God. Click here to view and listen to our current rotation on Spotify.
Are kids welcome?
Absolutely. We are a church of many growing families—you'll see as much if you visit us! Many families choose to keep their children with them for the whole service while other parents take advantage of our children’s program.
What's the children's program like?
Our children's program is available every Sunday for ages 0-4. On the first, second, and third Sunday of each month, childcare is also provided up to age 11. We use The Gospel Project curriculum, with each class learning the same story at different, age-appropriate levels.
Check in for childcare starts at 9:45AM each week. A children's ministry coordinator will help you at the front desk of our Kids' Wing, and you and your child will be given matching check-in stickers. Your child will then be guided to their classroom, where a team of teachers will lead them through the lesson, crafts, and other activities. When you pick your child up after the service, please have your corresponding check-in sticker ready.
What do we wear?
Jeans, suits, sweatshirts, dresses—we care more about worshipping together than what we're wearing while doing it. You're welcome to come in whatever is comfortable.
